Minnesota police have arrested a man and accused him of biting his girlfriend’s 3-year-old daughter in the face, as reported by Twin Cities Pioneer Press.
Scottie Dale Heckel, 20, faces one felony count of third-degree assault of a victim under 4 years old in connection to the June 17, 2017 incident, according to CBS Minnesota.
Authorities say the St. Paul man bit the young girl after getting into an argument with the girl’s mother. He is alleged to have snuck in the girl’s room, as she slept on a couch, before biting her. The next morning, the 3-year-old told her mother what had happened and she kicked the suspect out of the house, police note.
The incident was brought to the attention of police by the young girl’s aunt after her daughter noticed bruises on her cousin’s cheek, as reported by Grand Forks Herald.
The victim was examined at the Midwest Children’s Resource Center where it was determined by doctors that the marks on her face were consistent with adult human bite marks. The criminal complaint notes that, after the incident, Heckel told the victim’s mother that he needs psychiatric help and that he is “f***ed up” in the head.
This is not Heckel’s first brush with the law. He has a criminal history that includes a conviction of fifth-degree misdemeanor assault and a guilty plea to gross misdemeanor domestic assault.
The 3-year-old’s father actually has full custody but sometimes lets her stay with her mother, the criminal complaint indicates. It has not been noted if this arrangement will change after the alleged assault.
If convicted, the 20-year-old could face up to five years in prison and/or a $10,000 fine. No attorney is listed for Heckel in court records.
